Riza Handpan D Kurd Mandala – 12 Notes (432Hz / 440Hz)
Begin your handpan journey with our Riza 22-inch 12-Note Mandala Handpan in the popular D Kurd scale, available in both 432Hz and 440Hz tuning. This model is designed for players who want a beautifully balanced instrument with extra musical range, without the premium price tag.
Riza Handpan by Melodic Forest® is our carefully refined beginner-friendly series — the result of three years of testing over 30 different beginner models from independent makers around the world. This is the model that consistently delivered the clarity, warmth, tuning stability, and long-term reliability we require. Each piece is handcrafted, tuned by ear, and individually sound-tested in our Sydney showroom before shipping.
Many beginner handpans on the market sell for $1,500–$2,500 — often made by the exact same makers behind our Riza series. By working directly with them and skipping distributors, brand markups, and multi-layer advertising, we’re able to offer a high-quality instrument at a far more accessible price.

Designed for Beginners & Improvisation
The 12-note Mandala layout expands the classic D Kurd scale with additional high notes, giving you more room to explore melodies, rhythm patterns, and expressive grooves. This layout is still intuitive for beginners — everything harmonises beautifully — but offers more creative possibilities than a standard 9-note handpan.
Each of the 12 notes is precisely tuned for a clean, resonant sound with a gentle sustain. The additional tones allow for richer improvisation, more variation in mood, and smoother transitions when you begin exploring your own playing style.
High-Quality Stainless Steel (1.1mm)
Crafted from durable, high-hardness 1.1mm stainless steel, this handpan offers excellent tuning stability and a warm yet clear tone. Stainless steel provides a slightly longer sustain and brighter presence compared to nitrided steel, while remaining rust-resistant and low-maintenance — ideal for beginners and casual outdoor playing.
The mandala pattern is created through heat treatment rather than paint or coating, so it doesn’t affect the sound quality. The finish is both visually striking and acoustically clean.
Choosing Between 432Hz and 440Hz
Both tunings sound beautiful — the difference is subtle, and you can’t go wrong.
• 440Hz — Standard tuning
This is the global tuning standard used by most instruments. If you plan to play with other musicians or backing tracks, 440Hz is the safe and versatile choice.
• 432Hz — Meditative tuning
Some players prefer 432Hz for its softer, more calming feel. It pairs beautifully with sound baths, meditation sessions, and solo playing. If you’re buying this for relaxation or healing purposes, 432Hz is a lovely option.
Not sure? If you’re mostly playing alone, choose the one that resonates with you. If you want the most compatibility, choose 440Hz.
An Affordable, Reliable First Handpan
This 12-note Mandala Handpan is ideal for beginners who want more range than a standard 9-note model without jumping into the $2,000–$3,000 professional tier. It’s approachable, expressive, and genuinely enjoyable to play — a perfect introduction to the world of handpan music.
Whether you're starting your musical journey or looking for a thoughtful, versatile instrument, the Riza Mandala Handpan offers exceptional value, beautiful tone, and long-term reliability.
