About tuning

Traditional singing bowls, particularly those from the Himalayas (often termed Tibetan singing bowls), are not crafted with specific Western musical notes in mind, such as C, D, or E. Their beauty lies in the rich harmonics they emit, and each bowl resonates with a distinct sound. The emphasis during their crafting is on the depth, resonance, and quality of sound, rather than aligning them to a particular note.

Given that they are predominantly handmade in regions like Nepal and India, factors like temperature variations during crafting or the mallet used can subtly influence the sound. These bowls have always been revered more as meditation and healing tools than musical instruments. Additionally, the colours and chakra symbols adorning the bowls are believed to possess healing and balancing energies.

While there's been a surge in their popularity in the West, leading some manufacturers to machine-tune bowls to specific notes for the Western audience, traditionally-made bowls remain untethered to such designations.
